Who’s who – Aug 22, 2007

from the Lincoln Journal Star

Can you identify all the restaurant guests? (The Nebraskan readers are at a little bit of an advantage here.)

I scanned this before I did the gray shading in case I screwed it up. It took too long to have to draw it again.

  1. Mr. Wilson says:

Hey Neal, did you post this before I put up my very similar post over at Lincolnite? If so, oops! I swear I didn’t mean to steal your idea. Great minds think alike, eh? :-)

  2. neal says:

I’m not sure I know which post you mean, Mr. Wilson – would you be willing to link to it?

EDIT: I found it, here. At first I thought you meant you’d written a blog about how Jon Bruning has been targeting all kinds of people in his campaign attacks, none of whom are actually declared candidates. We’ll have to share notes on how the Who’s Who goes.

  3. Mr. Wilson says:

I suppose that would make sense, wouldn’t it? Here it is.

  4. q says:

did you draw your dad into this toon?

  5. jxz says:

    is the waiter derrrrrique?

  6. neal says:

No, the waiter is just a waiter, and Jon Bruning is sitting with his wife.

Not only did I draw my dad in this cartoon…

  7. q says:

it looks to me that, perhaps, you mom and john wenz are also in it.

  8. q says:

along with frank solich, grandma seng, youreslf and ken svboda,

  9. neal says:

yes on my mom and dad, Frank Solich, Mayor Seng and me.
no on John Wenz and Ken Svoboda.

  10. q says:

i choose to willfully disbelieve you and say that the man with the primate is johnny. but given that he is holding a monkey and dressed the same as the man sitting next to him with the flock of pompadours haircut, maybe i’ll concede to a cultural reference that’s over my head.

  11. West A Dad says:

Okay, I’ll go out on a limb…Mike Spadt?

  12. neal says:

    Which one?

  13. West A Dad says:

    Upper left corner.

  14. neal says:

Nope. Spadt isn’t actually in it, I just wanted to see which one you thought he was.
I think that’s the person people have been guessing was Ken Svoboda also.

  15. West A Dad says:

Darn, not Spadt or Svoboda, I give up on that one. But the guy between Seng and Solich is from the TNE story. I don’t remember much more than that.

  16. West A Dad says:

Paul Fell, it has to be.

  17. Grunion Guy says:

Before reading any comments, I noticed your mom, dad, you and your wife, your alternate you and Jesus. I think if my memory of your other comics is correct, is the lady in the flower dress the Lincoln Mayor or something?

  18. natefrog says:

Is that ASUN guy behind the word bubble?

  19. neal says:

    Good work, natefrog!

  20. jxz says:

Is Ben Nelson next to the pompadour?

  21. Reldeal says:

The Guy with the monkey, is that the former RHA President, the one whom you prominently featured in a cartoon getting his ass handed to him at the DN couch whilst a disgruntled monkey patiently waited his turn?

  22. neal says:

jxz – yes. It admittedly doesn’t look much like him because I thought he was going to get cropped out so I didn’t spend much time on him.

Reldeal – correct. His name is Chad Price and the monkey is a symbol of Kyle Stewart. In that cartoon, there was a smoking monkey, and Kyle asked me if that was supposed to be him. At that time, I didn’t know who he was or why he thought that would be him, but since then, the smoking monkey has become a symbol of him.

I actually saw him the other night downtown – he appears to be doing well and is finishing up his degree. I’m not sure what Chad’s up to these days.

I’m sure they were both just sitting around waiting for the day they appeared in another cartoon. ;)

  23. natefrog says:

Woohoo! Do I win anything, Neal?

I miss ASUN guy. I’m sure you could use him for something else, right?

(And are you going to print who everyone is in the cartoon?)
